California Faith for Equality

If you’ve seen us at Facebook, you may have noticed a link to a Catholic Statement Supporting the Freedom to Marry in California. That statement is part of a broader call to action for people of faith who are standing up in support of marriage equality.

If you’ve been following us here and wondering what you can do to help with whatever the fallout of the state Supreme Court’s decision will be, you might be interesting in checking out the California Faith for Equality Coalition.

They don’t have a special declaration for Mormons to sign (yet, maybe they will if we ask?) but they do have a place to declare that you are LDS and, like the Catholics, “We … can clearly perceive that same-gender civil marriages pose no threat to our Church.”

For those of you in the San Francisco Bay Area, there are some religious activities planned for:

The eve of the Supreme Court decision (due June 3rd at the latest) at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, 7 p.m.

The Saturday after the Day of Decision (if you’re not going to Fresno), at St. Francis Lutheran Church, 8:30 a.m. (followed by a march to Civic Center Plaza)

See this pdf link sponsored by the Bay Area Faith Community Action coalition for more details.

Metropolitan Community Church San Jose, along with several other faith and civil rights organizations, will also be participating in Day of Decision activities.

Information about planned activities in the South Bay may be found at this link:
